LC: Ministers simply agreed to keep talking. No undertaking to send troops from the meeting and no formal written
statement as argued for by Australia.
Alexander Downer says - you have to understand the realities of the world.
Meanwhile in Jakarta Indonesian Foreign Minister Ali Alatas says that "deadlines of 48 hours are not realistic".
The US say they are not interested in a fight with Indonesia and are not giving any indications of willingness to offer
peace-keepers.
The PM did not attend the meeting but she has spoken with Bill Clinton.
PM press conference - "if the disorder continues then I have no doubt the international community will reconsider the
position."

Q: There has been lots of talk of a strong message is he right?
The ministers put a spin on it, but it really is an exercise in futility. W. Indonesia has too large a military to
contemplate doing anything without there agreement.
The question on everybody's mind is what is on Wiranto's mind. Optimists are saying that in three weeks the assembly is
to ratify the vote and around that time there may be a window of opportunity for Indonesia to agree to peace-keepers.
But until then it is not likely.
As for Dili the latest information is that the Indonesian's have raised that place to the ground.
