1. East Timor - There is jubilation as East Timor's ballot results come in. Four out of five voters favour independence. There are worries that far from accepting defeat pro-Indonesian militia will step up the violence. More troops are on there way to restore order, but it looks like no peace-keeping force will be able to go there until Indonesia ratified the result in November.
NZ MPs just back from East Timor say the NZ Government should do more and quickly
East Timorese in New Zealand are jubilant, but worried about violence.
Reporter just back says besides the violence, East Timor's economic position is shaky with 90% of the local budget coming from Indonesia.
2. APEC - Months of planning are being put into action as APEC meetings begin soon. 1600 police are going to Auckland leaving colleagues behind to cope. Police say they have enough staff to cope, but routine inquiries and some court actions will be put on hold.
