East Timor – Wages Of Lotto – Ansett Strike – Israel – Weather Stats
EAST TIMOR: At least 5 been killed as militias go on the rampage in East Timor. The UN compound in Dili has been surrounded and many journalists have been intimidated.
WAGES OF LOTTO: Lotto chairman Geoff Thompson is defending his role in negotiating the salary package for the Lotto boss David Bale. Mr Thompson says Bale did a good job. Meanwhile Peter Biggs , chair of creative New Zealand, says he is disappointed with what has happened to Mr Bale.
ANSETT: Ansett says it won’t back down in a dispute with its pilots. The CEO says the company remains determined to introduce a new contract.
ISRAEL: Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat has returned urgently to Israel as peace negotiations near a breakthrough.
WEATHER STATS: Official weather stats for last month show it was cooler than normal. Less rain than expected was received.
