WATSON: Secretly taped phone conversations were played to the Scott Watson murder trial today between Watson and an ex
girlfriend. In the conversations Watson denied murdering the pair, said foam cut out of squabs was because he had burnt
them and spilt paint on them, and the scratch marks on the hatch were made by his niece. The prosecution has finished
its case.
NO BODY: New Plymouth police have detained a prison escaper who said he murdered a 16 year old girl last week and dumped
her body at sea. However no missing person report has been made and no body found.
PETROL: Caltex will increase its petrol and diesel prices by two cents per litre at midnight tonight. It is the fourth
rise in two months. Other companies are non committal.
PROTEST: Thirty fishing boats sailed into Wellington Harbour this morning to protest the government’s cost recovery
regime. John Luxton was the subject of heated comments and although he said the regime had been tough, no refunds would
be made.
TOXIC FIRE: A container ship carrying toxic chemicals is burning in the English Channel after being struck by a cruise
liner yesterday.
QUAKE: A four year old Turkish boy plucked from a destroyed building after six days is doing well in hospital. He is
sedated as he is having hallucinations.
TORNADO: A mini tornado ripped through Western Australia today ripping roofs off buildings and injuring one woman. It
lasted one minute.
INDONESIA: 5000 pro independence supporters took to the streets today before Monday’s ballot on independence. It was the
biggest pro-independence rally in 24 years.
FAT: 1/5 of adult Kiwi’s are obese and our mean body weight has increased by over three kgs in only eight years, a
survey published today revealed. Also of concern was the low calcium intake of young women and the impacts on the health
system of so many fat people in the future.
