1. INCIS - IBM has told the Government that it is pulling out of the INCIS system. The project has cost $132 million
dollars so far, $35 million more than budgeted for and many years overdue. Only stage one has been completed with the
crime fighting tools of stage two and three still not finished. IBM say the Government told them they would not be
renegotiating a contract in a timely fashion so they are pulling the plug. Police Association says Police Commissioner
Peter Doone's job must be in question. Labour wants an inquiry. IBM says it has lost money and court action to recover
it may be an option. Political reporter says the Government was taken by surprise by the announcement. Bill Birch says
they want IBM to honour the contract and court is an option for them as well.
2. WHAT NOW FOR INCIS? - Police say they need computer power to keep up with the criminals. The police Association says
that frontline resources were sacrificed for INCIS and they have been wasted, they are now six years behind while
organised crime have better computers.
3. DEATH SENTENCE - The Government is to make a plea for clemency for the man sentenced to death for the murder of a
Samoan Cabinet Minister. Don McKinnon says NZ is opposed to any death sentence and he may make a plea after court
proceedings are over. The family of the murdered man also want no death sentence.
4. TRIPLE HOMICIDE - Police in Auckland are trying to work out how a mother and two children were killed in a South
Auckland home. The woman's husband is recovering in hospital after surgery for wounds. Police say it is unlikely that
they will be looking for anyone else in connection.
5. RESCUED TODDLER - An update on the story of a young girl who was rescued from a fire by heroic firemen and brought
back to life after she stopped breathing. The girl is fine and the family are grateful.
