MALL SHOOTING: An Armourguard officer was shot in the leg and robbed in a West Auckland mall today. He was operated on and his injury is not life threatening. The robber got away with a sack of cash.
ANTIQUE STABBING: A Christchurch antique dealer was stabbed in the throat today while being robbed of a small amount of cash. He is doing well.
PETROL HIKE: Shell are putting up their prices by another three cents per litre – the second increase in 11 days. The other main players are waiting until tomorrow to decide whether to follow suit.
SNOW: The lower South Island got a heavy dumping of snow last night closing roads and schools but delighting skiers.
CM RESEARCH POLL: A TV 3 CM Research poll has found that National has 37 per cent of the party vote, up four; Labour has 38, down eight; The Alliance has eight per cent, up one and New Zealand First has 4.7 per cent, up .7. Assuming NZ First won an electorate seat, this would give them six seats in the House and the balance of power again. Clark is the preferred Prime Minister on 19, Shipley on 18 and Bill English on four.
LABOUR POLICY: Labour announced their education policy for schools today. The policy will cost $360 million, will abolish bulk funding and look at scrapping the ERO.
