Information Gathering Around Kahui Twins Continues
The team of detectives investigating the deaths of Chris and Cru Kahui on June 18 has, over the past few weeks,
completed hundreds of inquiries involving all manner of people and institutions.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Tims says the scene examination - at 22 Courtenay Cres, Mangere - has been completed by
ESR experts who've retrieved several items for examination including babies' clothing.
"Since we were first notified of the twins' injuries on June 12, we've interviewed up to 90 medical practitioners and
staff who've provided valuable information to the investigation team," Mr Tims said.
"We're anticipating that the results from some pathology tests will further help us piece things together in terms of
being able to more accurately estimate the time the injuries were inflicted on these two babies. Those test results will
be given to us sometime next week."
Area inquiries in the immediate vicinity of the two properties the Kahui and King families are known to frequent over
the time of their babies' lives outside the neo-natal care units, have also been completed.
Further to that, at least 20 members of the immediate and extended families of the babies have been spoken with by
Police. Those interviews have been recorded either on video or by hand. A further 90 non-family witnesses have been
interviewed by the investigation team.
"I'm pleased with the progress we're making and will continue to make," Mr Tims said.
"We haven't exhausted the list of people we want to speak with and today we'll be speaking to some we haven't already
spoken with and reinterviewing some others. We don't have any plans to speak with Chris and Cru Kahui's parents today."
