Kevin Polwart – Lundy Murders – Outback Nightmare – Sydney Bashing – House Market
KEVIN POLWART: Escaped prisoner Kevin Polwart is back behind bars after six weeks on the run. He was recaptured in an
early morning raid in Porirua. He had escaped while he was serving 10 years in Rimutaka prison on aggravated robbery and
firearms charges. When police found him he had several thousand dollars on him. Police are investigating whether the
money is part of the over $200,000 still unrecovered from the robbery. Polwart taunted police with telephone calls
during his time on the run.
LUNDY MURDERS: Mark Lundy told police he was with a prostitute the night his wife Christine and daughter Amber, who he
is accused of murdering, were bludgeoned to death. The statement he made to police the night they were murdered was read
to the Palmerston North District Court today. In his statement, Mark Lundy said he and his wife shared a loving
relationship, but had not had an active sex-life for some time and that he had used prostitutes on several other
occasions.
OUTBACK NIGHTMARE: British Holiday maker Joanne Lees has spoken today of the terror she faced at the hands of a gunman
in the Northern Territory, who is believed to have shot dead her British boyfriend. The boyfriend is still missin. The
gunman has not been found. Police are conducting an extensive search.
SYDNEY BASHING: Sydney police are hunting the attacker of a New Zealand man who was bashed unconscious in the central
city. 30-year-old victim is in a coma.
HOUSE MARKET: A new survey shows that lower interest rates and lower house prices combined with higher wages this year
is increasing demand for houses. The survey has found it is easier to buy a home now than last year. The authors of the
survey say these conditions should continue at least until the end of the year. The news is less good for sellers –
prices aren’t expected to increase for some time.
