ACC CANCER CASE REVERSAL: The ACC says a Northland who had five cervical smears misread is entitled for compensation for
medical misadventure. Dr David Rankin for the ACC says that two of the slides were “seriously misread”. The ACC
admission has brought a call for an inquiry into the work from the Northland laboratory.
APPLE WARS: ENZA board members will meet Agriculture Minister Jim Sutton today in a bid to find an out of court
settlement with its Apple growers. The board said in a statement last night it was seeking a full and final settlement
of the issue.
FIJI MURDERS: The NZ family of one of two gay men murdered in Fiji says that allegations John Scott and Greg Scrivener
were involved in drugs and underage sex are heart-breaking. The brother-in-law of Greg Scrivener says the family is
suffering from the vile denigration of their relatives name.
AUGUSTO PINOCHET: A court in Chile has ruled that General Augusto Pinochet is too sick and demented to stand trial.
Pinochet is charged with more than 70 murders committed by a “caravan of death”after he came to power.
CHRISTINE RANKIN: The former WINZ boss Christine Rankin employment grievance case is expected to come to an end today.
Rankin’s lawyer will complete his summing up of the case and then the judge will retire.
AUCKLAND TRANSPORT: An Auckland City Councillor says an Automobile Association call for a bus system based on the rail
corridor is unrealistic.
BIG CHILL: Insurance companies say they are facing claims from 1000s of home-owners following a week of freezing
temperatures. Several people have also been killed in road smashes caused by icy roads.
WIMBLEDON: Croatian Goran Ivanisevic has won the men’s Wimbledon tennis final. Invanisevic has previously lost three
Wimbledon finals. He was delighted with his win.
