SLOBODAN MILOSEVIC: Former Yugoslavian President Slobodon Milosevic is on his way to the International War Crimes
Tribunal in the Hague. The President invoked the “national interest” clause in the constitution to overrule a court
ruling.
PROBATION STRIKE: Lawyers are concerned the courts will become clogged with a back-log of cases if probation officers do
not return to work. Probation officers have decided to take a limited form of industrial action. The PSA is warning that
all officers will
FIRE FIGHTERS SETTLEMENT: The Professional Fire Fighters Union says that the 10 years it has taken to get agreement on a
new contract has been worth it. Following a 90% vote in favour of the decision, union spokesman Derek Best says the
dispute was not about pay but about protecting jobs, the community and fire engines.
MOBIL CAMPAIGN: Staff at some Mobil service stations in Auckland are becoming concerned for their safety. Andrew Little
from the Engineers Union says that front line staff are being targeted by members of the public angered as a result of
the Auckland Regional Council’s clean diesel campaign.
MICROSOFT: An American Appeals court has delivered a large victory to Microsoft, stopping an order to break up the
software giant.
JACK LEMON: Actor Jack Lemon has died in hospital aged 76 of complications as a result of cancer. Lemon won two Oscars
during his career.
CHRISTINE RANKIN: The cross-examination of State Services Commissioner Michael Wintringham begins in the Employment
Court today. Meanwhile Christine Rankin wants to give more evidence against Mr Wintringham, in particular that he always
said he would deny saying things in court if necessary.
TARANAKI HEALTH SERVICES: Taranaki Health Board has delayed a decision to close Hawera’s acute services unit in South
Taranaki. The DHB now says it will consult widely before making a decision on the unit.
MANHUNT: Police have started a man-hunt after a 15-year-old Hastings boy was repeatedly stabbed in his stomach this
morning.
