Christine Rankin – Qantas NZ – Air NZ – Wahid Visit – Best School

CHRISTINE RANKIN: Department of Work and Income boss Christine Rankin’s husband told the Employment Court how his wife’s life was made desperate and miserable, at her $818,000 grievance case against the State Services Commissioner . He said she was abused at supermarkets and restaurants. State Services Commissioner Michael Wintringham will testify for the Crown tomorrow. The opposition milked the case for all it was worth in the House today, and though the Government officially refused to comment, they slipped in a few barbs.

QANTAS NZ: There was grim news today for people with money tied up in failed airline Qantas New Zealand – its total debts add up to $88 million.

AIR NZ: Air NZ plans to go to the Government tomorrow with its Singapore airlines submission. Singapore airlines wants to increase its stake in the airline from its present 25 percent, and that can’t be done unless the Government changes the foreign ownership rules.

WAHID VISIT: NZ has offered help to politically troubled Indonesia in historic talks between Indonesian President Wahid and Prime Minister Helen Clark in Christchurch today. Clark called for the killer of Private Leonard Manning - killed while on duty in East Timor - to be brought to justice. A small group of protesters outside Wahid’s hotel protested the country’s record of human rights violations.

BEST SCHOOL: Auckland Girls Grammar, a school with wide ranging ethnic groups, has taken the honours in a competition to find the country’s best school.
