14B: Police and health authorities have launched another raid on the importer of 14B – the CD cleaner that is used to
get wasted. No arrests were made, but computers, records and cartons of 14B were seized. Police say they suspect the
Timaru importer has continued to sell the drug, under the brand Puritec, on the Internet. An expert committee has yet to
make recommendation on how to classify the substance, which is legal. Meanwhile, there’s been a huge jump in police
raids on laboratories making speed.
BURNED BABY: The Auckland mother of a baby being treated for severe burns has been charged with assault. The Baby girl
is believed to have gone under operation at hospital today. The hospital said she is stable but critical. The
28-year-old mother made a brief appearance in court today, and has been remanded for psychiatric assessment.
KILLER MOM: Police in the US have arrested a woman after she confessed to killing her five children while their father
was at work.
BURTON MURDER: The mental health of Queenstown man Mark Burton, who is charged with killing his mother Patty, has been
under scrutiny in court today. The psychiatric patient has a history of not taking his medication, and using drugs and
alcohol.
LYTTLETON PICKET: Police say they may call for an independent inquiry into their handling of a picket at the Port of
Lyttleton, where protester Christine Clark was run over and killed, following criticism by the judge in the manslaughter
trial of Derek Powell, the man who was driving the car that ran her over.
POISON SPILL: Police have charged a truck driver who spilled 18 tons of rat poison into the sea off the coast near
Kaikoura when he crashed, and he may also face prosecution by Environment Canterbury.
HOUSE TAX: A tax on home ownership put forward by a tax committee report looks to be a dead duck, after Finance Minister
Michael Cullen said he would never introduce such a tax and all other parties distanced themselves from the idea.
