POWER PRICES: New Zealand’s largest power company, Meridian, is being flooded with customers as some smaller power
companies are turning people away. The smaller companies, are blaming rising wholesale power prices for forcing them to
turn customers away. In the meantime, the Consumers Institute is warning people to hold off changing companies for a
week or so to see what wholesale prices do. Meanwhile, National Leader Jenny Shipley is claiming that claiming Meridian
Energy paid for an advertisement for a cheap power deal by Christchurch Central Labour MP Tim Barnett.
GANG MURDER: Claims were heard in Court today that black Power member Max Shannon was shot dead as part of a three year
gang war over drug territory in Christchurch, and that his killing was revenge for a nightclub altercation two days
earlier. The Crown will call nearly 120 witnesses in the trial, which is expected to last 6 months.
MACKENZIE MURDER: Police hunting the killer of Tauranga man Noel MacKenzie believe the killer may have been injured in
the attack, and are interviewing staff in A clinics to see if the killer may have sought help.
ROGERS’ PAROLE: Steven Slavich was murdered by Shane Rogers 10 years ago. Rogers was to go before the parole board this
month, but will now not go before the parole board until March.
DAIRY LEGISLATION: The Government has introduced legislation to govern the behaviour of new dairy giant GlobalCo, just a
day after farmers voted for the dairy merger.
PREGNANT NETBALLERS: Australian netball officials are sticking by their policy of not allowing pregnant women to play,
despite players and medical experts saying it isn’t necessary. Netball NZ hasn’t decided one way or another.
