Promise of help for police informer
Police have promised to honour a deal with a Mongrel Mob gang informant who yesterday won a court case against them for failing to help him. The pledge came after a High Court judge's ruling that police did not keep their end of a bargain with former Mob head Anthony Hewison, who has been hiding in Australia since 1997 after informing on fellow gang members.
