Montana Shares – Dairy Merger – Copter Crash – Bad Landlords – Royal Massacre
- MONTANA SHARES: The stock exchange says Lion Nathan broke the rules in their buy-up of Montana Wines shares. Lion Nathan may now lose them. They jumped the gun buying 18 per cent of Montana overnight at the same time British company Allied Domeck were making a bid. Lion bought more shares afterward, and now owns 62 percent of Montana. If Lion have to sell their shares back to the exchange there could be another bidding war.
- DAIRY MERGER: The dairy merger vote is by no means certain, with a group of dairy farmers speaking out against creating the Global Dairy Company. The alternative being mooted would see a competitor, and the farmers say this scenario would be better for the economy and better for farmers.
- COPTER CRASH: The safety record of the nation’s helicopters after a crash near Taumaranui that killed three people who were on board. Onlookers say the helicopter just dropped out of the sky. One onlooker said it looked like the rotor blade had come off before it crashed, but another disputes this. There have been 23 helicopter crashes in the past 12 months.
- BAD LANDLORDS: A couple of landlords have been handed a $40,000 fine for letting tenants live in squalor in a makeshift house. During the trial the court heard of rats and cockroaches, and the electric shocks the tenants received from faulty wiring.
- ROYAL MASSACRE: The
grieving kingdom of Nepal has its third King in four days. A
dusk till dawn curfew in action after angry mobs crowded
around the palace and people died in violence on the streets
of Katmandu. The angry crowds want the truth about the
palace massacre before they can accept a new monarch. Crown
Prince Dipendra, who allegedly shot his family then shot
himself, was king for two days on life support before he
died. He was cremated
today.
