QANTAS AND AIR NEW ZEALAND: Qantas says it is aware of the need for competition in the New Zealand market. It says it is not interested in gaining control of Air New Zealand, and only wants up to 49%. Their has been speculation that Ansett may be sold to Singapore Air Lines.
CHRISTINE RANKIN: Christine Rankin says she is determined to pursue her personal grievance case against the crown, and is unlikely to accept any out of court settlement.
TIMOTHY MCVEIGH: Okalahoma City Timothy McVeigh is to ask a judge for another stay in his execution, due to proceed on June 11th.
ANSETT PILOT TRIAL: The jury in the trial of the former Ansett pilot accused of manslaughter for flight 703 six years ago is now entering its third day of deliberations.
PICKET LINE MANSLAUGHTER: In Christchurch a jury will also resume deliberations in a manslaughter case involving the death of a woman on a picket line, Christine Clark.
PALASTINIAN BUS DRIVER SENTENCED: A Palestinian bus driver has been sentenced to eight life sentences for driving his bus into a packed bus stop.
DODGY DIESEL: Gisborne Fishermen say they are prepared for the first day of the crayfish season today. A fuel carrier has arrived in Dunedin and another will dock in Nelson shortly.
COLD WEATHER: The Met Service says the country is moving away from mild winters of the last few years. Instead we are headed for the real winter conditions typical of the mid 1990s. Meanwhile skifields Mt Hutt and Coronet Peak officially open for business tomorrow.
