Graham Parry – Christine Rankin – Dash-8 – Lyttleton Trial – Diesel – Rat Poison
- GRAHAM PARRY: Northland women have expressed outrage at Graham Parry being allowed back on the medical register – the
court saying he could return to supervised obstetrics and ultrasound. The women say they have been wronged by Parry, who
was struck off the medical register after failing to diagnose cervical cancer in Coleen Poutsma, who has since died of
the disease. Alliance MP Phillida Bunkle has been talking to the women. Parry’s lawyer says his client intends to work
again, even though there are currently two cases pending against him.
- CHRISTINE RANKIN: The Employment Court has ruled that it can hear Christine Rankin’s case against the Government, and
also revealed that Rankin thinks her look is one of the reasons the Government dismissed her. The Crown had tried to get
the case thrown out, arguing that employment law doesn’t apply to Government Department chief executives.
- DASH-8: The wait goes on for the verdict in the manslaughter trial of Ansett Dash-8 pilot Gary Sutheran, for crashing
flight 703 in the foothills of the Tararuas on approach to Palmerston North airport, killing four people.
- LYTTLETON TRIAL: The High Court Jury in Christchurch has been deliberating whether Derek Powell is guilty of the
manslaughter of Christine Clark, who was fatally injured when Mr Powel drove through a Lyttleton Port picket line.
- DIESEL: A tanker bearing clean oil sailed into Dunedin harbour today, earmarked for use on the water. Pleasure boaters
say the dodgy diesel has scuttled their plans for the long weekend. Motorists will have to wait till next week for clean
fuel.
- RAT POISON: Divers are collecting shellfish off Kaikoura as they try to assess the pollution caused by a rat poison
spill.
