- PARRY BACK: Graham Parry, the doctor struck off the medical register for disgraceful conduct after he failed to detect
cervical cancer in Northland woman Colleen Poutsma, has been awarded the right to return to limited practice. The judge
upheld the charge of disgraceful conduct in relation the Colleen Poutsma’s case, but he overturned the penalty. Alliance
Health spokesperson Phillida Bunkle said the medical system has broken down in allowing Mr Parry to return to practice.
- RANKIN FILE: Christine Rankin has today taken the Government to court over its decision not to reappoint her. But the
Government is trying to get the case thrown out.
- QANTAS DEAL: A political backlash over the proposed Qantas takeover of Air NZ is growing – with the Alliance and NZ
First saying they opposed it. However, the Government, hasn’t seen anything from either airline. The Air NZ CEO said the
airline is not cash strapped. On the streets, Kiwis predominantly opposed the idea. National transport Spokeswoman
Belinda Vernon said it could jeopardise out international landing rights. MPs are concerned about the loss of the Air NZ
Koru identity. Political editor Mark Sainsbury said deal will not go ahead in its current form.
- DIESEL: Attempts to sort out the diesel crisis have struck a problem – oil companies have stopped talking with
fisherman after legal advice that they risk breaching competition rules. Fishermen have been refueling with new diesel.
NORTHLAND FLOOD: A flash flood hit the small Northland settlement of Whangateau overnight. Insurance assessor John Watts
is in for a busy couple of days.
