- MORE FLIGHTS: Whisper jets return to New Zealand skies as Air NZ plans extra domestic flights. The jets were used by
its former rival Qantas NZ, and there will be jobs for some of Qantas NZ’s laid off staff. Air NZ says it will have new
services up and running within a month, and many seats will be at budget prices as Air NZ continues its aggressive
attempt to dominate the local market.
- 767 TROUBLE: An Ansett 767 made an emergency landing after wing flap problems, the second such incident in days.
- TERTIARY EDUCATION FUNDING: Polytechnic leaders are making a last ditch bid for more money before the budget. Last
year the Government boosted funding to universities and polytechnics in return for a fee freeze, but tertiary
institutions may not have enough money now. Deputy PM Jim Anderton said a week before the budget is too late to change
anything.
- DASH-8: Ansett Dash-8 Pilot Gary Sutheran, who is facing four manslaughter charges over the Dash-8 crash, told the
High Court in Palmerston North of the stress he faced after the accident.
- MIDDLE EAST: Israel launched more air attacks against Palestinian targets today, worsening an already tense situation.
- BATTLE OF CRETE: Veterans of the Battle of Crete Greek got to experience it all again, as the German invasion was
re-enacted on the Island. Cretans welcomed New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark.
