Small Plane Safety – East Coast Maori – Tourism – US Energy Crisis – Israel – Macedonia
SMALL PLANE SAFETY: A review by international consultants has found that some small aircraft operators in NZ have been
taking shortcuts in safety areas.
EAST COAST MAORI: The Government is giving a small East Coast Iwi $4 million to fund social services. The money is to be
used to set up a management structure for Tuhoe. A slip has closed a road to the place the launch is to take place.
TOURISM: Tourism New Zealand says that regional tourism could be increased hugely through promotion.
US ENERGY CRISIS: A huge political row has broken out in Washington after George Bush unveiled his energy crisis. Bush
is calling for the construction of more than 1,300 new power plants. Critics say he should be addressing demand as well
as supply issues.
ISRAEL: Both Israeli and Palestinian officials have threatened to intensify violence against one another. At least 14
people were injured in an aerial attack on a refugee camp on the West Bank.
MACEDONIA: A deadline for rebels to quit villages in Macedonia has been extended. A spokesman says that a ceasefire has
produced results.
