POLICE RAPIST’S WIFE: The estranged former wife of a jailed police rapist says that she is the victim of political point scoring over the payment of wages to her former husband, and his application for a PERF super payout. McLean has paid $100,000 to the police super fund, with government contributions he will get $300,000 back.
BOTSWANA: Relatives of the three NZers killed in a plane crash in Botswana are about to attend a memorial service for their loved ones.
SKYHAWKS: Trans-Tasman defence arrangement is under strain over government plans to get rid of the Skyhawks. The axe hanging over the planes is expected to fall quickly.
GE COWS: AgResearch’s GE Cows at Ruakura have been given a stay of execution following the lodging of an appeal against an High Court decision . The Minister of Agriculture says he is concerned that researchers be allowed to get on with the job.
CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING IN LEICESTER: Another shock for women at center of the cervical cancer inquiry. A similar case has been identified in Leicester England with 25% levels of misdiagnosis at one laboratory between 1993 and 2000. 84 women were misdiagnosed. Improvements in techniques used to screen smears have reduced the rate of cervical cancer by 40%.
GEORGE HARRISON: Beatle George Harrison has had an operation to remove a tumor from his lungs.
TOM CRUISE SUES PORN STAR: Tom Cruise has filed a lawsuit against a French gay porn star who claims to have had a sexual relationship with him. The porn wrestling star says it was the relationship that broke up Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s relationship.
TV SHOW PROPS AUCTIONED: Hercules and Xena memorabilia has been auctioned in Auckland to raise money to get new equipment for the Starship Hospital. Xena’s sword and spinning disc were sold for around $2000 each, her bracelets sold for $1450. More props are being auctioned tomorrow.
