- HOLIDAY WEATHER: The North Island is bracing for a clash of two weather fronts. The result will be heavy rains and winds as far south as Wellington. Tropical cyclone Sose has lost much of it’s punch but still brought foul weather. The storm hit Northland early today and has spread to Auckland. Heavy rain has made rush hour nightmarish. The worst of the rain is expected to strike Auckland later tonight. Floods threaten Northland town Kaiu. Aucklander’s favourite holiday destination Coromandel is expected to cop some heavy rain and could see some flooding. Huge swells in Queensland were caused by Sose, a delight for hardcore surfers, but a huge weave almost caused disaster as it unexpected crashed up the beach almost sweeping people away.
- US SORRY: The 24 US spy plane crew have left the Chinese island of Hainan after the US released a carefully worded apology. Secretary of State Colin Powell says it was not an apology. The plane is still wHere it landed. Colin Powell said “this is not over.” NZ PM Helen Clark will be pleased at the apology, the issue willnow be off agenda when she meets the Chinese next week.
