CHINA CRISIS: The US Secretary Of State Colin Powell says the US “regrets” what happened to a Chinese fighter that collided with its spy plane. The Chinese say they want an apology, and for the US to take full responsibility for the collision. The White House is reluctant however to apologise.
COSMETIC SURGERY: Medical authorities are hoping that new legislation will lead to tougher standards for cosmetic surgery. The calls come following a repeat prosecution of a doctor.
ROSEMARY BRADFORD: The Minister of Education has admitted in Parliament that he defamed MP Max Bradford’s wife Rosemary Bradford. Rosemary Bradford says that Mallard’s statement is not enough to restore her reputation.
VIETNAM VETS: Vietnam Veterans are to meet the PM to tell her about their concerns about the way they have been treated.
ISRAEL: Talks between Israeli and Palestinian security chiefs will resume today with US mediation. The meetings represent an attempt by both sides to find a way out of escalating violence. After the meetings ended yesterday a firefight broke out injuring eight. Meanwhile five Israeli soldiers have been killed in a road accident on the West Bank.
AUCKLAND AIRPORT: Auckland Airport is facing growing congestion problems as the number of planes using the facility increases.
TEACHER TO BE STRUCK OFF: The Teacher Registration Board is looking at striking off an HIV positive teacher who has plead guilty to sexually assaulting pupils.
EASTER TRADING: Wineries say they are frustrated that they cannot remain open at Easter and want the law changed for them as well as for garden centres.
