- SCINETIST ACCUSED OF MURDER: A top Dunedin scientist is accused of killing his wife with poison after beginning an
extramarital affair. The demand for witnesses for the trial of Colin Bower is set to disrupt hospital services. The
crown prosecutor says about the time of Mr Bower’s wife’s death he began writing false prescriptions for a drug he is
alleged to have used to induce hypoglycemia in his wife.
- QUEENSTOWN MURDER: A 20-year-old man charged with killing a Queenstown policeman’s wife, schoolteacher Patty Burton,
has been identified as the couple’s son, Mark Burton.
- FATAL TAUPO CRASH: A Taupo school held a special assembly for three school pupils who died in a road crash when they
turned in front of a truck. Police say the driver of the car, who had a restricted license, breached the conditions of
his license.
- US/CHINA AIR CRASH: The US fears China may have some of its top secret spy secrets, after a mid air collision between
a US spy plane and a Chinese fighter jet that forced the US plane to land in China. China has accused the US plane of
deliberately ramming the Chinese jet, which crashed into the sea, killing the pilot.
- MILOSOEVIC IN JAIL: Former Yugoslavian President Slobodan Milosevic has spent his first night in jail after a dramatic
weekend arrest on charges of corruption and abuse of power including diverting $200m of state funds to overseas
accounts.
- SOUTHERN LIGHTS: The Southern Lights, a once in a decade display has been seen as far north as Auckland. The cause of
the effect is a solar storm, and we see dramatic green and red light in the night sky.
