FLETCHER ENERGY: Shell NZ says it will be keeping most of Fletcher Energy’s staff now that Fletcher shareholders have decided to sell. A Shell spokesman says the staff are high quality and the “vast majority” will keep their jobs. Meanwhile Peak Petroleum spokesman Mark Dunphy says he is disappointed.
CENSUS: Census officials say that calls to the census hotline requesting forms quadrupled late yesterday. Papers have been going out last night and this morning.
AUCKLAND VIOLENCE: Auckland Police chief says that attacks in the city are becoming more dangerous. The police commander was talking about the Nicholas Clarkson and Marie Jamieson murders.
FIJI: Fiji’s interim PM Qarase could resign his position as early as this morning if he follows advice from state lawyers. Yesterday the cabinet was
GISBORNE HOSPITAL: Gisbourne Hospital’s nursing coordinator says that morale among nurses has improved dramatically since last year.
NAPSTER: An American Federal Court has ordered Napster to remove all copyrighted material from its extremely popular website. Napster has begun a screening system to try and weed out copyrighted material.
FOOT AND MOUTH: Federated Farmers says the Government is finally listening to its concerns that border controls are not strict enough to combat the threat of Foot and Mouth disease.
WASP NEST: Residents of Massey, in Auckland, are delighted that a giant wasp nest in their street has been destroyed. The nest housed 2 million wasps.
TAURANGA SHOOTING: A man is in a life-threatening condition in Tauranga hospital following a shooting incident last night.
