FIJI: Fiji’s ousted PM Mahendra Chaudhry says the interim government is using delaying tactics to prevent the reinstatement of his government. Mr Chaudhry says it appears the interim government has no intention of recalling Parliament.
ISRAEL: The Israeli PM Ariel Sharon has condemned a “vile” bomb attack that killed four people at the beginning of the Israeli working week. The bomber had tried to get aboard a commuter bus.
IRA: A powerful car bomb outside the HQ of the BBC shows the IRA are still active. Police say the attack was probably organised by the “Real IRA”. Police conducted a controlled explosion of another bomb.
FLETCHER ENERGY: The chairman of Peak Petroleum Mark Dunphy says the consortium has strong support from Fletcher Shareholders for its bid for the company.
POWER LINES: The debate over the safety of high voltage power lines may be restarted by a study which appears to have found a link to child cancer. The study suggests the increased risk comes from charged, polluted, ions. Transpower is waiting to see the report.
FOOT AND MOUTH: The number of foot and mouth cases in the UK has climbed to 60. 50,000 stock have so far been slaughtered. One of the latest cases, at Dartmoor, which borders on a large area of commons land has been described as a nightmare.
ENVIRONMENT LEGAL AID: A new fund has been launched to help community groups pay for Resource Management Act case.
FIRE HERO: The fire-service is describing a 16-year-old girl as a hero after she rescued several children from a burning house.
SEARCH: A ground and air search for a 56-year-old male tramper missing in the St James Range will resume today.
