PETROL PRICE WAR: The price of petrol and diesel fell again today as Shell tries to boost its market share. BP and Shell
continued a war taking prices down 4 cents overall. Shell says the price competition will be dictated by customers.
Diesel has now fallen 20 cents and petrol 17 cents. Companies are unsure how low prices could go. AA says fill up the
car now.
ARATERE REPAIRS: The Aratere Ferry is being repaired over the next week. Tranz Rail says it can cope.
DAVID DOUGHERTY: David Dougherty is to be compensated for his wrongful conviction on child abuse charges. Justice
Minister Phil Goff says the public will be told how much compensation is to be given. David Dougherty is sad his father
did not live to see him acquitted. After a successful appeal a jury acquitted Dougherty on the basis of a DNA evidence.
Following a retrial in 1997 compensation was raised as an issue.
DAVID BAIN: Cabinet today also considered the case of David Bain. Justice Minister Phil Goff says a decision made will
be revealed on Wednesday.
BUNKLE’S APARTMENT: Phillida Bunkle says she is not a Wellington based Minister and has always commuted to the capital
where she owns a small house near Parliament. The PM has banned Wellington based Ministers from having ministerial homes
and Bunkle has one in Oriental Bay. Bunkle says Ministerial Services offered her the apartment and she says she asked
them to check. Bunkle says she has always lived in Nelson or Waikanae and only ever commuted to Wellington. National is
also upset about $5000 spent on hemp curtains in Bunkle’s apartment. Anderton says he will talk to Bunkle tomorrow when
he gets back. Clark is leaving today for the Andes.
EU WEATHER: A bid to save the life of a dog has claimed 4 lives in Europe due to unusual weather and snow conditions. A
further six people were killed in the dangerous icy snow conditions.
US WEATHER: Tornadoes have killed at least 12 in the Southern US. 20 tornadoes touched down. In the North West record
low temperatures led to power cuts and on the East Coast it is unseasonably hot.
OZ WEATHER: Meanwhile Australia is having problems with fires with lots of sheep dying in Victorian blazes.
TIGER LILLY: The custody battle for Tiger Lilly has been won by Bob Geldof. The court has ruled that Tiger Lilly will
live with her three half-sisters.
