US Election – Alexander Downer – Parliament In Urgency – New Prisons – Nurse Pay
US ELECTION: Presidential candidates Al Gore and George Bush will address the nation this afternoon on the Supreme Court decision issued yesterday at 3pm and 4pm respectively.
ALEXANDER DOWNER: The Australian Foreign Minister wants NZ to realise that they need a capable defence force. Alexander Downer says the experiences of East Timor should have taught NZ some lessons.
PARLIAMENT IN URGENCY: Parliament will resume under urgency this morning with progress being sought on 14 pieces of legislation. Parliament will sit till late tomorrow.
NEW PRISONS: Opposition has already been expressed to two South of Auckland, near Meremere, sites for prisons. Matt Robson says the prisons are near South Auckland.
NURSE PAY: The Nurses Organisation say that only a handful of Auckland nurses will get the full effect of pay rises.
