US ELECTION: The US Supreme Court has referred the vote controversy in the Florida Election back to the Florida Supreme
Court. The world waited for hours. The problem is in the details says a legal expert. The Court says Florida’s Supreme
Court violated equal rights in its earlier rulings and that time had run out. The court did not kill Al Gore’s chances
altogether. Al Gore hasn’t yet responded to the decision. He says he is reviewing the decision of the court and will
address it tomorrow. Some people have been recommending it be taken back to Florida. The Bush camp was quick to respond
saying they were pleased and gratified with the decision. “This has been a long and arduous process for everyone
involved.
LIVE TO WASHINGTON: What options does Gore have? We are told that Al Gore will not make a statement tonight. The ruling
is very complex. What will happen in Florida? The Florida court will have to look for a uniform standard way to count
these ballots. They have a December 18th deadline looming over them.
NELSON HOSPITAL SEXUAL ASSAULT: Nelson Hospital and police are investigating allegations a male nurse assaulted a woman
patient. The nurse was found dead yesterday morning. A patient said she woke up accusing a nurse of fondling her
genitals. The nurse left a note supporting the victims complaint. The woman rang TVNZ yesterday concerned she hadn’t
received an apology. The nurse leaves a wife and five children.
LILY BING HEARING: The mother of Lily-Bing gave evidence today at a depositions hearing in Masterton. She spoke of the
close relationship her daughter had with one of those accused of manslaughter. She said Rachel Namana was like a second
mother to her daughter. The mother went to housie and out for the night before her daughter died. Tomorrow Lily-Bing’s
grandmother
LANGE DEFAMATION: A long running defamation action against North and South Magazine came to an end quickly today in a
one minute court appearance. Robyn Langwell says it is a good decision for NZ Journalism. The case related to criticism
of David Lange’s performance as PM. Lange’s lawyer says he wanted to move on.
DOG ON THE RUN: Toot the dog is on the run tonight. He was due to be killed tonight but rumours say he has run away.
This highly publicised dog has won hearts all over the country. Toot is a trained possum hunter. He has support from
Wellington’s mayor.
