Florida Recount - Super Fund - Yacht Overturns
- FLORIDA RECOUNT: United States Vice President Al Gore’s team is celebrating the decision of the Florida Supreme Court
to allow hand recounts to be included in the final result for the State. All seven judges agreed on the decision. It is
a defeat for Florida Secretary of State Catherine Harris, a Republican, who was prepare to call the result without the
hand counts, effectively handing the presidency to Republican George W. Bush. There is a deadline for final results, and
that is early Tuesday morning NZ time. Mr Gore said he doesn’t know who will prevail after the decision, but he said it
was a victory for democracy. George W. Bush’s lead is shrinking with the hand count, but not as dramatically as the
Democrats would have hoped. It is two weeks since Americans went to the polls. George Bush has called the decision
unfair, saying the rules are being changed in the middle of the game.
