FIJI MUTINY: The four leaders of the Fiji mutiny have been identified as three members of the Great Council of Chiefs
and a senior army officer, by the Daily Post newspaper. 10 rebel soldiers are still at large following the mutiny. Army
spokesman Major Politini has also said that former PM Colonel Sitiveni Rambuka is also being investigated.
KIWI BANK: The Finance Minister Michael Cullen says that the business case for a NZ Post People’s Bank is strong but
that it won’t be receiving the $80m from the taxpayer. An attempt to launch a joint venture with Southland and Taranaki
banks has failed.
US ELECTIONS: US Presidential candidates Al Gore and George Bush are neck and neck with less than 72 hours till the
election. Both candidates are campaigning in key battleground states.
ISRAEL: Israeli soldiers have killed two Palestinians in the Gaza Strip ending a two day lull in violence. Palestinian
leader Yasser Arafat is talking to President Clinton about a meeting in Washington on Friday.
HOLOCAUST: Jenny Shipley is asking Sandra Lee to apologise for using the word holocaust on several occasions at a hui in
Christchurch. Alliance Leader Jim Anderton says that Sandra Lee has agreed that the word is inappropriate.
SCOTT WATSON: The lawyers for Scott Watson say they have been aware for some time of claims from a secret witness that
he lied about Watson at his trial. However a signed affidavit will be needed before the new development can be used in
another Watson appeal.
CARP FISH RESCUE: A meeting is being held today to decide what to do about a dying lake in Northland. Unlike local
residents the government does not believe a carp fish plan will save the lake.
