DEJA COUP IN FIJI: Suva’s Army HQ was the scene of a gun battle todayAt least 3 people have been injured. Hostages have
been taken by soldiers supportive of the May 19th Coup. It is not known who has won the afternoon’s skirmish. The
Counter Revolutionary Warfare unit were set freed recently after being let off treason charges in favour of mutiny
charges. The Armoury at the Fiji barracks has been taken over by the rebels.
DR GRAHAM PARRY: Northland Gynaecologist Dr Graham Parry has been found guilty of disgraceful conduct by the Medical
Disciplinary Tribunal. Victim Colleen Poutsma – who Parry failed to care for properly - says she feels some sympathy for
Dr Parry. Dr Parry has said he is disappointed with the decision. The tribunal must now decide whether to strike Dr
Parry off the medical register. A further 33 complaints against Dr Parry are under investigation.
MORGAN FAHEY: Dr Morgan Fahey has escaped an attempt by the crown to increase his sentence of six years jail on 13 sex
charges.
DYSON AND POT: The PM today revealed that Dyson has been convicted of cannabis possession when she was a teenager. She
says the information was not a secret and wonders what the motivations of those telling journalists are.
UNEMPLOYMENT FALLS: The number of jobless is at a 12 year low but the rate of unemployment has risen among Maori and
Pacific Islanders. Not since 1988 has unemployment been below 6%. The economists like the figure – the economy hasn’t
fallen into a hole as some had thought, says one. The government says the figures are good. Jim Anderton is not claiming
credit for the development. Erricsson has today announced an investment in NZ which will generate 150 jobs.
PETROL PRICE FALLS: There are signs that the price of petrol may also be on the way down. Auckland prices charged by BP
have been lowered 2 cents with the company citing “competitive pressures” as the cause.
BNZ PROFIT: The Bank Of New Zealand has produced a $389 million annual profit – up 8% on last year.
TAIWAN PLANE CRASH: Relatives of Singapore plane crash victims have started arriving in Singapore seeking answers.
Authorities are denying reports that construction equipment on the runway may have caused the crash.
