GOODBYE LIAM HOLLOWAY: Cancer kid Liam Holloway died of cancer two days ago. In late 1998 Liam started chemotherapy. In
January last year Liam was taken by his parents away from Otago Hospital for alternative treatment. The parents were on
the run for several months, pursued by the hospital. Eventually Health Care Otago abandoned their law suit. A lawyer
said it was unfortunate that it went to court. Family friends were grieving today and restating their support for Liam
and his parents. The Holloway family issued a statement today saying they were grateful for the support they received.
LIAM’S LEGACY: A government committee is being set up to look at alternative health care. A herbalist says this is in
the public good. Doctors are worrying how far $150,000 will go into looking into alternative therapy. But Dr Pippa Mckay
says it is a good start to start looking for evidence to support alternative therapy.
RUSSIAN SUB: A note has been found on the Kursk belonging to a crewman who says he was writing in the dark confirming
crewmen were alive in the sub. The note was written to his wife Olga. The families will want to know how long the
crewmen were alive.
KIWI PILOT IN SUICIDE INCIDENT: A NZ family is waiting to know whether their son will get part of the blame for a plane
crash in Indonesia. Kiwi Co-pilot Duncan Ward’s last flight had the appearance of pilot suicide. A near new 737 was
flying to Singapore. There is speculation that Ward may have been disabled by the captain before the plane crashed. The
flight voice recorder was turned off before the flight went into a steep descent and the pilot may have had a grievance
against Kiwi pilots. The Ward family say they will not be happy until their son’s name is cleared but are concerned that
the report will not be clear on who was to blame to avoid pinpointing blame on the pilot.
CHILD ABUSE: A Conference at Parliament on Child Abuse is boycotted by the Government. The Government said there was no
point in attending a National Party conference. Steve Maharey says he talks to the groups anyway. Simcock appears to
have wide support from the Children’s Commissioner and the Green Party and Women’s Refuge. Protests today in Wanganui
added weight to the argument in favour of mandatory reporting of abuse. The government says it is taking the issue
seriously by a
FERRET BANNED: Auckland’s famous ferret may be forced onto a diet of sandwiches after being banned from FINZ restaurant.
The ferret said that overall they were sorry they went to the restaurant. Bill Ralston and Geraldine Johns are defending
their comments saying the ban is just the latest in a long line of badges of honour. The restaurant is just worried
about how hard it is to make a buck at the moment says Ralston. In response a restauranteur says that Metro may be
worried about its ratings.
