- COALITION TENSION: Prime Minister Helen Clark rounded on outspoken Alliance MP Willie Jackson yesterday as the
smooth-running coalition machine showed signs of engine wear. Mr Jackson, who attacked Associate Energy Minister Paul
Swain yesterday, told the Dominion that Alliance MPs had not been briefed about a crown minerals policy at the centre of
a Treaty of Waitangi row.
- PETROL PRICE RISES: Petrol prices have risen another 4c a litre and diesel 7c a litre to a record 92.9c, with another
diesel rise likely.
- DROWNED BABY: While police and forensic scientists examined the home of the 11-month-old baby who was found washed up
on the banks of a Wairarapa river yesterday, a 39-year-old woman appeared in Lower Hutt District Court charged with the
abandonment of her baby son.
- POSSUM CONTROL: Genetic research is vital if the estimated 60 million possums in New Zealand are to be controlled, the
Royal Commission on Genetic Engineering has been told.
- SILVER FOR CYCLIST: “Hillbilly” Blenheim cyclist Mark Inglis won silver in the 1 kilometre time trial on the first day
