YOUTH SUICIDE: Youth Suicide has been brought out into the open by a TV3 programme on Youth Suicide. Phones at life-line have been ringing hot. The programme started with a drama and ended with a panel discussion. The PM watched the program and has backed a call from Jim Anderton – who lost a daughter to suicide – for more resources for youth suicide. The Children’s Commissioner has changed his views on the program following the screening. Lifeline has had 60-70 lines operating through the country. The lines will remain open till 8pm tonight. NELSON POLICE BAR BRAWL: Four off-duty police officers in Nelson will find out soon if they face disciplinary action over a brawl in the bar. Police say they are waiting to hear all sides of the story. Police say that one officer was called racist names. The bar owner was surprised the people involved in the brawl were police. The fight is believed to have involved a Maori woman. All four officers are still on active duty. Police estimate it will take two or three days to investigate.
BABY ABANDONED – FOUND DEAD: A Wairarapa Woman has been remanded for psychiatric tests following the death of a baby in the Ruamahanga river. The body of an 11-month-old boy was found in the river this morning. The baby was allegedly left in his car-seat beside the river at 11pm last night.
PETROL PRICES: BP has put up the price of petrol and diesel by 4 and seven cents a litre respectively.
LISA BLAKIE: Another clue has been found in the Lisa Blakie murder inquiry.
TRAIN CRASH: A 37-year-old New Zealander was among those killed in a UK train crash.
MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT: There has been no stop to the violence on the West Bank following a Middle East peace accord. Meanwhile the Israelis have seized one of the Palestinians involved in the death of two Israeli soldiers in Ramallah. Palestinian sources say the man with blood on his hands in a picture of the event was a physics student. He is now in interrogation. Israel’s PM formerly led an anti-terrorism unit and Israel has a history of tracking down Palestinian murderers.
