AUCKLAND AIRPORT EMERGENCY: A full scale emergency is in progress at Auckland International Airport. A United 747 has
reported having electrical problems on approach. Emergency services are prepared to deal with the landing in five
minutes time.
LISA BLAKIE MURDER: A new clue in the Lisa Blaikie murder case. A suitcase has been found in a waterway near
Christchurch. The suitcase is believed to be Lisa’s. Inspector Rob Pope says it is a significant find. The suitcase was
found near Waddington. The suitcase was found by contractors. The find has brought a measure of relief to Lisa’s
families. Lisa’s father says that he is convinced there are people out there who know what happened to his daughter. The
suitcase will be identified properly and examined by forensic experts. The family are keen to find out what is in the
suitcase.
MIDDLE EAST PEACE SUMMIT: An agreement – but nothing on paper. Even as the accord was announced violence continued. The
truce involves both sides calling for an end to the violence. President Clinton says that everybody needs to avoid
recrimination. Back in the Gaza strip Yasser Arafat acknowledges that the crisis is not yet over. Ehud Barak has warned
that he wants 48 hours of peace. At a funeral an angry crowd has called for more unrest. Arafat faces a formidable task
selling the deal to his people. The mediators say they have played their last card and may not be able to contain the
violence if this agreement does not bring peace.
USS COLE BOMBING: Investigators have discovered explosives in an apartment in Aden believed to be related to the bombing
of the US destroyer.
THREATENING PHIL: A man has been remanded in custody on charges of making threatening calls to Justice Minister Phil
Goff.
ROAD RAGE: A 38-year-old man has plead guilty to a road-rage attack that has left a victim with serious brain damage.
POLICE BRAWL: Nelson police have decided not to charge any off-duty officers involved in a bar brawl because no
complaints were laid.
IREMIA DEPARTS: Alama Iremia is leaving NZ to play rugby in Japan. Sayonara says Iremia. He will be missed by his team.
The team say it was an emotional announcement. Iremia is off to pay for the Japanese liquor company Suntori. Iremia
played for Manu Samoa and the All Blacks. He played 30 games for the ABs. The All Black team to tour France will not be
announced till this weekend and it is not known whether Iremia will be in the squad.
AIRPORT EMERGENCY UPDATE: The plane has now touched down safely.
XENA COMES TO AN END: Lucy Lawless has become world famous as Xena warrior princess. On the Rosie O’Donnell show Lawless
says she is sad to move on but it has been a good run. The shows kiwi cast and crew will now be working for new work.
Xena’s stunt double says she will miss the show. NZ audiences have not yet seen two series of the show.
