YUGOSLAVIAN REVOLUTION: The man NATO could not ban into oblivion has been hounded out by his own people. The Army joined
the people in turning against Milosevic. Crowds are still celebrating this morning at dawn. Tuba music and speeches at
rallies. Police defend Parliament as state TV broadcasts an orchestra. The invasion of Parliament goes on and on. Many
drop back because of tear gas. “We are now creating a new history”, says a Serbian journalist. Later the battle for
State TV. The screen goes black. The police hand themselves over to the crowd. Late at night news that three military
planes have left reaches the street. Kostunica then assumes the position of President elect.
MILOSEVIC’S END: Slobodan Milosevic was overwhelmingly defeated. World leaders want his resignation. Bill Clinton says
that people are trying to get their country back. Tony Blair says the message is clear “go, go now, go before any more
lives are lost…. And I say to the people of Serbia…the hand of friendship and partnership from countries like Britain is
there fore you.” Where does he go. Even sympathetic countries may not want to harbour him.
FIJI TENSION: Threats against the Army Commander Frank Bainimarama have led to increaded
KIWI PEACE-KEEPER CHARGED: A Kiwi officer is charged with GBH and drunk driving in relation to a shooting incident in
Bosnia.
BODY FOUND: A body has been found in suspicious circumstances in a house in Mt Wellington.
BRAIN DRAIN STOUSH: The relationship is turning sour for the Business Roundtable with the Government. Adverts in
newspapers with young NZers names in them – saying the country is in a bad way - were paid for by the NZBRT. The money
has since been paid back but the PM says that what Roger Kerr has been doing is economic sabotage. “Get a life”, she
says. Kerr says this is a case of shooting the messenger. Not everyone whose name is in the list is happy their name is
there – says Juliette McVeigh. Meanwhile Alliance staff member Tony Simpson has been told off for calling Richard Poole
– who placed the ads – of being a halfwit.
ONE TREE HILL ATTACK: A 23 year old man has been convicted of wilful damage following another attack on the One Tree
Hill pine. The condition of the pine is not known.
FRAUD: A man accused of a cook book scam appears in court.
NELSON MURDER FUNERALS: Three young sisters were farewelled at a funeral in Nelson today. Their mother is believed to
have killed them in a murder suicide incident. The woman was involved in a custody dispute with the father of the girls.
POWER CUTS: Electricity has been cut off in parts of Auckland where a woman is up a power pole.
OLYMPICS: Sydney Olympics organisers are selling off equipment from the games. Some stuff will be kept for a museum.
