Kaimanawa Rescue – Shark Attack – Consumers Gloomy – Hockey Dream Over – Olympic Doping – Transsexual MP Fever
- KAIMANAWA RESCUE: A reluctant hero saved a father and son in the Kaimanawa ranges – they had been caught in a storm
and were in a bad state and could have died, when the tramper stumbled upon them. He moved them to a safe spot and kept
them warm. Bad weather forced the three to spend two nights in freezing conditions. All three are home and safe now.
- SHARK ATTACK: The widow of the New Zealander killed in shark attack at Cactus Beach in South Australia spoke to One
New in an exclusive interview. She said no one was to blame for he husband’s death. She was dozing on the beach when he
was attacked. She said she doesn’t want to know the results of searches for his remains. She said the couple dreamed of
travelling the world. She said she’d like to thank all the people who had sent her support over last few days. A
memorial service is planned for the man in the next couple of weeks.
- CONSUMERS GLOOMY: A new survey show consumers across the country are feeling pessimistic, with Aucklanders the most
gloomy they’ve been for nine years. Grocery prices are going up following the rising petrol prices this year, forcing
people to be more selective about how they spend their money.
- HOCKEY DREAM OVER: The New Zealand Women hockey players failed to make the final against Australia, losing a do or die
match against Argentina. Argentina ran riot, winning 7-1.
- OLYMPIC DOPING: The Sydney Olympic games are dirtiest in history. Almost 40 athletes have now put in positive drug
tests in the lead-up to, or during, the Olympics. More positive drug tests became apparent today.
Sydney turned on a fine day for the Olympics today, after heavy rain and lightning last night.
- TRANSEXUAL MP FEVER: Wairarapa MP Georgina Beyer is the darling of the British media, who are fascinated by the
transsexual MP. Reporters are cueing up to interview her, but not about the commonwealth meeting she’s attending. Ms
Beyer appeared on Ruby Wax’s TV show. Ms Wax said she had a novelette like life story.
