OLYMPIC DRUGS: The US Swim coach says he is suspicious that drugs are being used in the pool.
OLYMPICS NZ: NZ Equestrian eventers are well placed going into today’s cross-country competition. Mark Todd is 4th and Blyth Tait 7th.NZ Rowers are also in action today as are NZ Tall Blacks and women’s Soft-ballers.
NZ FIRST: The PM has intervened with the relationship with NZ First following the defeat of a NZ First Members Bill on polling before elections, by accident, in the house yesterday.
WAITARA: Maori Affairs Minister Parekura Horomia says it is important all groups in Taranaki band together to combat racism. Local mayors have not been supportive
DOLLAR: The NZ Dollar has traded as low as 40.45 US Cents overnight. The TWI has also set a new all-time low record.
OVERSTAYERS: A newspaper in Canberra is infuriated by NZ’s plan for an amnesty for well-settled overstayers. The Australian newspaper says this rewards overstayers.
TIMOR: Indonesia has set a time-table for disarming West Timor militias. A general says the militias will be asked to give up arms voluntarily.
PHILIPPINES: One of two French hostages who escaped in the midst of a military raid in the Philippines says they were treated well by the hostage takers.
AUCKLAND RAIL: The future is uncertain for a deal which Auckland hopes will help Auckland transport problems. Transport Minister Mark Gosche says money towards Auckland Rail will have to come from Transfund.
