Alzheimer’s Murer Accused – Waitara Shooting Report – Sydney Olympics
- ALZHEIMER’S MURDER ACCUSED: There was a special court sitting at a Christchurch hospital for a rest home resident in
the advanced stages of senile dementia, charged with murder. Tonight family Members and the lawyer for the accused are
questioning the charge. The case has been adjourned for a psychiatric report. Police say they were legally bound to make
the charge.
- WAITARA SHOOTING REPORT: The Race Relations Conciliator has called on Taranaki police to improve race relations with
Maori, in a report written in the wake of the Steven Wallace shooting in Waitara. He says there is evidence of
institutional racism in Taranaki. Shortly after the shooting the Prime Minister said the shooting demonstrated racism by
the police. While this report vindicates her comments to some extent, opposition MPs says she should still apologise.
- SYDNEY OLYMPICS: Bulgarian weightlifting is in disgrace after one of their lifters tested positive for performance
enhancing drugs. 11 world records have been broken in the pool. World records have also been broken in cycling. 12
records have been broken in weightlifting, nine of them in women’s weightlifting. Ian Thorpe got another gold, to make
it three. Eric Moussenbani from Equatorial Guinea is the new darling of the Olympics, swimming the 100m for the first
time in his life at the Olympics. He only learned to swim in January, and his time is more than double the world record
time.
