HOME DETENTION: The Minister of Justice says he is concerned at the prospects of convicted child abusers serving sentences of home detention. The Minister of Justice says that it is not appropriate for persistent and violent offenders to serve sentences at home.
SUNKEN SUBMARINE: The Russian Navy is making a second attempt to lower a diving bell to conduct a rescue from the sunken submarine Kursk.
JOANNE MCCARTHY: The family of Joanne McCarthy say they want Travis Burns to admit the murder and explain his motive. Burns was found yesterday.
RESERVE BANK: The Reserve Bank Governor Don Brash will announce this morning whether the bank will increase its bench mark interest rate. Most economists are not expecting a rise today. Dr Brash warned in a speech a couple of weeks ago that he could ignore an inflation spike.
STEVEN WALLACE: A decision is expected today from Police on the Steven Wallace investigation into police homicide.
CONCORDE: British Airways has suspended its Concorde Fleet following word that it was about to be suspended by the authorities. Some commentators believe Concorde will never fly again.
EMERGENCY CALLS: The police have voiced concerns over a new cell-phone system that diverts boating cellphone calls to the police control room.
