DOVER SAMUELS: An angry PM says she did not dig up dirt on Dover Samuels. Dover Samuels and Peter Williams QC claim to
have recorded Chris Clark digging dirt. The PM said that Chris Carter did not dig dirt but rather the truth. Details of
the phone call tag between Chris Carter and the Dover Samuels informant were revealed. Clark says the whip and Bob
Harvey were doing their jobs. “It would not have been prudent not to follow up on information provided to them”, she
said. After meeting with his lawyer today Dover Samuels says he has nothing to say. The PM will not be drawn on whether
or not the party will take action against Samuels. She says she has asked him to put his head down and get on with work
as an MP. The PM’s body language looks angry. Jenny Shipley will now have to prove that the PM went after the dirt. She
hasn’t been making any statements outside the house however.
ERB: The ERB has resulted in a lock-out of the Evening Post for running a photo of Annabel Young yawning. The Speaker
says you can only photograph the Speaker and a member who is speaking. It is not surprising that some MPs are yawning as
it is taking a long time. Today there were arguments about when to have lunch. It is now unlikely that the bill will be
passed as planned tomorrow.
EQUESTRIAN SETBACK: Chesterfield – Blyth Tait’s horse - who won bronze in Atlanta has died suddenly of a heart attack.
BRAD PITT AND JENNIFER ANNISTON: Are not in Queenstown as previously reported – but have been seen in LA with President
Clinton.
DEMOCRAT CONVENTION: Al Gore’s camp is concerned about the publicity that Bill Clinton has been getting on the eve of
the Democratic Convention in Los Angeles. Hillary Clinton is shown saying nice things about her husband. Al Gore is
trying to claim credit for the Clinton’s presidency but wants to distance himself from the Clinton’s themselves.
AUSSIE WATTIES LOCK IN: Heinz Wattie workers have locked themselves inside a factory cafeteria in Australia to demand
their jobs. The factory is due to close in November when production will move to New Zealand.
AUCKLAND AIR POLLUTION: Air Pollution in Auckland last year was often as bad as London’s worst pollution. In
Christchurch and Wellington air pollution is also bad. Auckland residents have been encouraged to
dob-in-a-smoking-vehicle.
