QUEEN MUM: The mother of all British birthdays is underway. The Queen Mother turns 100 today. NZ was the first country

Guns in Auckland. NZ Post issued new stamps. She last visited NZ 34 years ago. Two republicans remained siting yesterday
in Parliament during a standing tribute to the Queen Mum.
QUEEN MUM: The Queen Mum’s conduct during the blitz is the main reason she is so well loved. The Queen Mum stayed in
London during the bombing a very visible sign of British resoluteness. She has been called the enforcer by one paper. A
journalist says that she is as “tough as old boots”. Tributes paid by ordinary British folk.
CANCER INQUIRY: Tears of rage today as a former member of the Cervical Cancer Screening Programme team – Ms Handiside -
says that she predicted the outcome but could do nothing about it. The woman says she felt stressed and harassed working
on the programme. And that she resigned when she realised she could do nothing about it.
WAR HERO’S WIDOW DIES: The widow of NZ’s greatest war hero Charles Upham dies.
DARWIN BOMBED: A Darwin radiator shop is accidentally bombed by a passing Royal Australian Air Force jet. A four metre
long missile crashed on a car – squashing it. The missile was not armed. This is the second case of something falling
off an Australian plane.
SEWAGE POND FEATURES ON STAMP: Raetihi’s sewage pond is featured on a new $1.10 stamp from NZ Post. Raetihi appreciates
the publicity. A local photographer took the photo some time ago. The best looking sewage pond in the country.
