FIJI COUP: Fiji has a New Government following a swearing in ceremony conducted by the President. The lineup is almost the same as it would have been had Speight not intervened last week to stop it being sworn in. There has been no problems from Coup supporters since the new government has been announced. The Army says that everyone must accept that this will be the government until elections are held in two years time.
CORONERS: The government has been asked in a report to improve the lot of the “Poor Cousins” of the Judicial system – our Coroners. The role of the office has changed greatly in recent times says an expert.
SWEAT SHOPS: The Minister of Labour says her department is investigating 61 sweat-shops. She says that the ECA has given employers the impression that exploitation is acceptable.
FOOD LABELLING: 100 Protestors have gathered outside the Park Royal Hotel in Wellington where Trans-Tasman Health Ministers are considering Genetic Modified food labelling issues.
BROADCASTING: The Minister of broadcasting says a new charter for broadcasting will go to cabinet shortly.
