FIJI COUP: The interim PM of Fiji has outlined his vision for the country in a newspaper article. He says the head of
state will always be a Fijian. Half of all licenses will be reserved for indigenous Fijians.
FIJI COUP: Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon says the draft list for a new government for Fiji contains
extreme nationalists. He says that Fiji will face serious economic and sporting sanctions if Fiji’s Indian population is
marginalised.
CHARLIE DEMPSEY: Soccer NZ says the immediate retirement of Charlie Dempsey came as a surprise. Dempsey abstained in a
FIFA vote last week leading to Germany holding the 2006 World Cup. He was going to step down later this year but now he
will leave immediately.
WOMEN PRISONERS AT MT EDEN: The Corrections Minister says a shortage of beds for female inmates should have been
forseen. As a result of a shortage 40 female inmates will be accommodated in Mt Eden.
HARRY POTTER: The Commerce Commission says that bookstores selling the Harry Potter book below cost are not breaking the
law. Small book stores are complaining that they are being shut out of the market.
