TAINUI: One of the most outspoken critics of Tainui leader Sir Robert Mahuta, Dr David Gilgen, says it was time for Sir Robert to go. Sir Robert has been removed from his directorships of Tainui companies.
FIJI COUP: The Fiji Military have laid down a challenge to George Speight to deliver to the people. The Military deny they have lost out saying the accord they have signed is realistic under difficult circumstances.
FIJI COUP: The Foreign Minister says the make-up of the interim government to be appointed on Thursday will be critical to NZ’s relationship with Fiji.
FIJI COUP: Leaders of the Fiji Indian community are expressing grave concerns for the future. One spokesman says that Indians are effectively made second class citizens.
CHARLIE DEMPSEY: The Tongan member of the Oceania Football Federation has backed a claim that Charlie Dempsey was given a mandate to vote as he chose. NZ, Australia and the Cook Islands say they did not give the mandate claimed by Dempsey. Meanwhile in Europe sources say that Dempsey was never expected to vote for South Africa.
DUMP TRAGEDY: More than 100 people are missing and 60 are dead following a mud slide in a rubbish dump in the Phillippines.
MIDDLE EAST PEACE: The Israeli PM Ehud Barak has survived a no-confidence motion 52 to 54 in the Israeli Parliament. A vote of 61 against him was needed to displace him. Barak has now departed for a peace summit at Camp David.
SOLOMON ISLANDS: In the Solomon Islands two gunmen from the Mailaitan Eagle Force have walked into a hospital and shot two militia members from the ISFM.
NURSING SHORTAGE: Wellington Hospital has had to cancel operations because of a severe nursing shortage. Capital Coast Health says the situation is critical. CCH doubts it will solve the problems in the short term.
JOHN TAMIHERE: ACT is keeping up pressure on John Tamihere about his past. Richard Prebble has used his weekly newsletter to issue a challenge to Tamihere to release his Wanganui police record.
