Todd Allegations – People’s Bank Ahead - Defence Policy - Deaths Inquiry - Missing Search - Fishermen Rescued
TODD ALLEGATIONS: Mark Todd, NZ’s world champion equestrian, is accused of living a double life. A British tabloid
magazine has accused Mr. Todd of taking campaign and having homosexual sex. A lawyer for Mr. Todd says he is not
commenting and taking legal advice. Meanwhile, Todd's home town of Cambridge is stunned by the allegations.
PEOPLES BANK AHEAD: The Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton says he aims to have his “peoples bank” opened by Christmas.
Cabinet gave the go-ahead to Mr Anderton’s proposal today. Opposition MPs have criticised today’s move, saying the
Labour’s concession to it’s minor coalition partner will be a costly one.
DEFENCE POLICY: An Army overhaul is the first priority for a defence upgrade in the Government’s much awaited defence
policy statement. The statement had little detail about other big ticket defence items, the decision on whether to buy a
frigate and on the future of the aging Skyhawkes are both put off.
DEATHS INQUIRY: Two families today found out more about the death of two young flatmates. The families were at the
inquest into the deaths of Lachlan Jones and Malcolm Beggs. A coroners report released tp the inquiry showed that one of
the two men, had not been taking his medication for mental illness. At the inquest, friends of the deceased men gave a
grisly testimony.
MISSING SEARCH: A search is underway for a mother and her son missing in bush on the Kapiti Coast. The pair have not
come out from the bush a week after their planned return date
FISHERMEN RESCUED: Meanwhile while on Bank’s Peninsula, three fishermen have been rescued by a group of school children
on a trip.
