GOFF TO SOLOMONS: The Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff has arrived in Sydney and hopes to fly to Honiara tomorrow along with an Australian delegation including Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.
SOLOMONS EVACUATION: The renewed evacuation of foreigners from the Solomons Islands has been going on this morning from the Honiara yacht club– 33 New Zealanders went on the boat last night and more are expected this morning.
SOLOMON’S COUP UPDATE: It appears that the Solomon’ Prime Minister Barthalomew Ulufa'alu has been released from capitivity and is under un-armed guard.
FIJI CRISIS: In Fiji the Commonwealth Ministerial Group visit has been delayed after a request by the military who want to appraise the situation in Fiji before the Ministers’ arrival. They want the meeting postponed until next Friday. Meanwhile, NZ Foriegn Minister Phil Goff's office has reportedly been trying to convince the military to move the meeting time forward.
TAXI DRIVER IMMIGRANT MURDERED: The police say a taxi driver who died after being in stabbed in Lower Hutt, was a 27-year-old Sri Lankan, who arrived in New Zealand three years ago.
KYLIE JONES CASE: : Police officers are talking to commuters on buses in Auckland today in an effort to find out more about the fatal stabbing of a woman in a Glenn Innes Park.
GAS CHARGES UP: Contact energy has raised its fixed charges for gas by 70 per cent.
GUN THEFT PENALTIES: The council of licensed gun owners is calling for harsher penalties for gun thefts.
DETENTION BREAK: Hundreds of illegal immigrants spent a cold but incident-free night in a supermarket carpark in Woomera in the Australian outback after a mass breakout from the town's detention centre yesterday.
WOMAN HIJACKER: The Whangarei police have disarmed and arrested a woman they believe threatened motorists at gunpoint this morning and hijacked their cars.
EMPLOYEE THEFT: A trusted employee has admitted stealing about $2.7-million from the trust account of her employer, the Christchurch law firm, Saunders and Co.
