FIJI COUP – SPEIGHT: George Speight says any deal to end the Coup Crisis will require a commitment to secure the primacy
of Indigenous Fijians in the Fiji Government. Speight says he discussed several initiatives to resolve the crisis with
Sitiveni Rambuka last night.
FIJI COUP – UN: Phil Goff says he has spoken to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan about sending a UN emissary to Fiji. The
head of UNTAET in East Timor has been selected and he will arrive in Fiji this afternoon.
FIJI COUP – NZ LAWYER: A NZ lawyer spoke to Speight on the phone yesterday in an attempt to negotiate. Speight says the
conversation was a waste of time and that he was insulted a European was selected to talk to him.

SIERRA LEONE: Rebels in Sierra Leone have freed a further 29 UN Peace-keepers in Liberia and have asked for the release

SERBIA: A Serbian court has sentenced more than 100 ethnic Albanians to 7-13 years in jail for terrorism.
SIR JOHN GEILGUD: Actor Sir John Geilgud, one of the world’s most famous Shakespearian actors has died aged 86.
TRENT BRAY: NZ Swimmer Trent Bray has been provisionally suspended by the world swimming body over a dispute over a drug
test. An appeal is expected to be heard next month.
