AIRWAYS ALLEGATIONS: Radio New Zealand News has learned from a key source that three key Airways staff were to be “sold”
to an international consortium which plans to buy the UK Air Traffic Control. The government now needs to review the SOE
model to see whether it fits circumstances.
WEST COAST DEAL: One of the West Coast Mayors says his council will seek advice from overseas on how best to spend the
$120 million investment fund. Buller Council says it will advertise internationally for someone to provide advice.
BUDGET DATE: The Labour/Alliance Budget will be read on June the 15th. The date was announced at a breakfast meeting by
Finance Minister Michael Cullen.
ZIMBABWE: Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe has set a date for elections on June 24th and 25th. Meanwhile Don McKinnon
is visiting Zimbabwe for 24 hours.
CHINESE BUS ROW: An inquiry has been told that police were wrong to push back and screen protestors from the visiting
Chinese premiere with a bus. Protestors say that alleged “weapons” were poles for holding placards and that they were
not involved in a fight.
DUTCH EXPLOSION: For the first time since the huge explosion in Enschede some families have been allowed back to inspect
the damage to their houses. Rescue workers continue to search for bodies.
ISRAEL: There have been violent clashes between Palestinians and Israelis on the West Bank and Gaza Strip on the 50th
anniversary of the beginning of the state of Israel. Four people were killed and more than 200 were injured.
RARE BOOKS: The Auction of one of the most outstanding rare book collections in NZ is expected to set new standards.
Some books are expected to reach seven times their reserves.
MISSING ASIAN TOURIST: Police in Hamilton are resuming a search for an Asian tourist who went missing near Meremere last
night.
